Q: What can I expect in the first session?

A: If you’re new to therapy, you might be wondering what to expect from your first visit. We’ve included a link to an article which may be helpful in this regard (Your first session). During your first session, your psychologist will provide you with additional information before you sign our consent form. You are also very welcome to raise any questions that you may have with your psychologist in person when you meet.

Q: What will it cost?

A: At In Session Clinical Psychology, our current fee for a standard consultation (50 minutes) is $220. This is payable on the day of your session and you can pay with credit card or EFTPOS. We do not accept cash or cheques.

Q: How much of the cost will be covered by health insurance?

A: For clients with Medicare, if you have obtained a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you are entitled to 10 Medicare rebated sessions per calendar year. (Please click here if you would like more information about obtaining a Mental Health Treatment Plan). The Medicare rebate for Clinical Psychologists is currently $131.65 per session, leaving a gap fee of $88.35 per session that is not rebated.

We are also able to see clients through private health insurance. The amount rebated to you for psychology sessions will depend, based on your insurer and the specifics of your health care plan. It’s a good idea to contact your private insurance company
beforehand. They can provide you with information about the number of sessions covered, the rebate amount provided, and the procedure required to claim your rebate.

We are not able to see clients whose sessions are payable by external organizations or other third parties (e.g. TAC, Worksafe, NDIS).

Q: What should I bring along?

A: If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, please bring a copy of your Referral letter and Mental Health Treatment Plan from a GP or psychiatrist.

Your Medicare card. To ensure there are no issues with your rebate being processed, we recommend that you contact Medicare on 132 011 prior to your first appointment to make sure that they have your most recent details.

Your bank details – account name, BSB and account number.

Your psychologist will process your rebate on the day of your session, provided that we have all of the necessary information available. Medicare takes approximately 2-3 business days to transfer the rebate to your bank account.

Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

A: If you need to cancel or reschedule any appointments, please advise us via admin@insessionpsychology.com.au. Please note that our practice has a 48 hour cancellation policy. Full fees may apply for cancellations made within the 48 hours prior to a scheduled appointment.

Q: What if need support before my session?
